Chill out at Glastonbury

Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset is world famous as the home of the Glastonbury Festival and from the 22nd to 26th June 2016 the farm will be besieged by over 137000 music, culture and food lovers.

Michael Eavis inherited Worthy Farm and its 60 cows in 1954. In September 1970 he hosted a folk, blues and pop music event, entrance was £1 and this included unlimited milk. 1500 people attended.

1971 saw the first summer solstice timed festival, in those days it was called the Glastonbury Fair. Andrew Kerr and Arabella Churchill organised the event as an antidote to other festivals that they felt were too commercialised. Entrance was free to the 12000 attendees and Joan Baez and David Bowie performed.

The first “Glastonbury Festival” was held in 1990; its full title was the Glastonbury Festival for Contemporary Performing Arts and well over a thousand acts performed plus fridge hire for food, drink and medical areas was almost as busy as the Pyramid stage!

After a break in 1991, the 1992 festival encompassed music, cinema, circus, comedy and children’s entertainment. Tom Jones was the surprise guest and £250000 was raised for Greenpeace, Oxfam and local charities. The ticket price was £49.00.

Leap forward to 2015, the £225 tickets sold out in minutes and over £2 million was donated to charity.

Worthy Farm has had over 2.8 million visitors and these partygoers needed to be fed and watered.

As we know from news reports the weather can be contrary at festival time, sometimes the farm is a muddy haven, at others it’s been blessed by the burning sun.

This can prove to be a logistical issue for the 500 plus vendors who must ensure that all food and drink is safely stored so they wisely source fridge hire services instead of poisoning the Glastonbury crowd, the market and food vendors in the Field of Avalon, Glasto Latino and the clubs on the south side of the farm particularly have to account for the varying temperatures.

Chiller hire, freezer hire and refrigeration hire proves invaluable to chefs and suppliers, as do emergency fridges for stock. A company like Ice Cool Trailers can offer excellent mobile fridge hire solutions for them, as they can hardly borrow the farm’s kitchens. Plus, revellers served warm beer would surely stage a protest so refrigeration trailers are a sound investment for all Glastonbury souls.

The kitchen teams have weeks of preparation (whatever the weather) and reasonably long term commitments to their clientele’s wellbeing so they require fridge hire to act within the law.

Glastonbury has grown to be far more than a rural music festival, it’s iconic.

Eavis and Glastonbury are globally cool (even without fridge hire) and long may that continue.

Weather predictions show a variable forecast for the 2016 festival, pack wellies and sun cream.

If it gets too hot try sneaking in to a refrigerated trailer for a cool down, they’re spacious and you may start a trend! (We’re joking.)
